New Pact for the Mediterranean: Challenges and Perspectives between Cohesion and Enlargement

📅 15 October 2025 | 🕦 11:30–13:00 (CET)
📍 European Committee of the Regions – Jacques Delors Building (Room JDE 63), Brussels

The Adriatic Ionian Euroregion, in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia and the Med Coop Alliance, is organising a political debate during the 2025 edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC).

The Mediterranean region has once again become a strategic crossroads at the heart of global dynamics, marked by complex challenges but also extraordinary opportunities for cooperation.

Within this framework, the debate on the New Pact for the Mediterranean aims to shape a political, social and economic agreement that strengthens regional integration, promotes cohesion between the northern and southern shores, and addresses the tensions linked to enlargement and differentiation processes.

The event aims to foster a shared reflection on the future of Mediterranean cooperation, to reflect on the role of local and regional authorities in support of greater fairness and sustainability.

The panel will include high-level political representatives: Dubravka Šuica, Commissioner for the Mediterranean, European Commission, Nikola Dobroslavić, President, Adriatic Ionian Euroregion, Jaume Duch Guillot, Minister for European Union and Foreign Action, Government of Catalonia, Margalida Prohens, President, Balearic Islands and Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean.

The debate will be moderated by Elodie Nunes, Executive Secretary of the Intermediterranean Commission (CPMR), and will include open discussion with the audience, comprising politicians, members of the Committee of the Regions, and representatives of key Mediterranean stakeholders from civil society, academia, business, and beyond.
