On the 2nd of July 2016, the Assembly of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion gathered in Pula, in the Region of Istria (Croatia), to host AIE’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

AIE Members, representatives of the European Institutions, as well as EUSAIR member states and other thought leaders, will share their ideas on AIE’s past achievements, future activities, and the challenges that Euroregion will have to face.

Background of the event

It was 10 years ago, in July 2006, that visionary politicians came together to create this unique international association bringing together regional and local authorities in the Adriatic basin in order to establish and to develop mutual relations between inhabitants and institutions and to stimulate and realize a fruitful development for this territory.  Over the years, the Association has been strengthened through the work of its institutional bodies, the exchange of best practices and administrative experiences in view of a continuous process of capacity building.

In 2016, the values and objectives of the association are more relevant than ever. The EUSAIR strategy opens up numerous opportunities in the sector of blue growth, environmental, tourism and connectivity.

For the members of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion is now important to continue in this collaboration  increasing the commitment among its members and stakeholders, being aware that the role of local and regional authorities needs to be reinforced for the good implementation of the Strategy.

The Extraordinary Assembly has the purpose to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the association and to discuss about the role of the multilevel governance, as a policy driver to foster the Euroregion, as well as the present and the future of the macroregional cooperation.
