On the 5th – 7th June 2019, the MED Sustainable Tourism Community will gather in Barcelona on the occasion of the Mediterranean Sustainable Tourism Convention 2019 to debate the tourism sector’s contribution to a more sustainable and inclusive growth in the Mediterranean region. Panel discussions, round tables, workshops, side events and sites visits, will showcase how territorial projects of the Interreg MED Sustainable Tourism Community can help in preserving the unique landscapes and precious resources of the Mediterranean by promoting a sustainable tourism.

The Mediterranean Sustainable Tourism Convention 2019 fosters a sound debate on key topics to promote sustainable tourism by providing a platform to showcase solutions developed by the MED Sustainable Tourism Community, an Interreg MED Programme initiative.

The Convention gathers more than 70 speakers and 200 representatives at European, national, regional and local levels of the tourism sector from private and public entities and higher education institutions.

The Adriatic Ionian Euroregion (AIE) will join the Convention as partner of the MED Horizontal Project Bleutourmed_C3. The secretariat of the AIE will be involved in a panel debate. Furthermore other representative of AIE members (such as FVG Region, Puglia Region, Emilia Romagna Region, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Split and Damatia County and Dubrovnik-Neretva Region, etc.) will attend the convention as hosted participants or as partners of MED modular projects giving their contribution to the event.

The Convention is structured around one day and a half of panel discussions, thematic round tables and parallel workshops organised by the projects of the MED Sustainable Tourism Community.

In the final day participants will have the opportunity to experience what sustainable tourism means in Barcelona and it surrounding territory in four site visits.

Besides, some territorial projects are organising side events of the Mediterranean Sustainable Tourism Convention 2019 such as: DestiMED project will organise an open workshop and demonstration of the project achievements, presenting several tools implemented during the project cycle; CO-EVOLVE project will feature a dissemination event on “Promoting the co-evolution of human activities and natural systems in MED touristic coastal areas”; finally MITOMED+ project will animate a policy learning seminar.

In a dedicated exhibition area of the Convention the 18 territorial cooperation projects of the MED Sustainable Tourism Community will showcase their results and pilot actions in 12 northern Mediterranean countries involving almost 200 organisations.

The Convention is organised by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the BleuTourMed project in partnership with CETT – UB (School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy of the University of Barcelona) and the Hotel Alimara. HostelTours and SmartTravel News are media partners of the Convention.
